High River ITU long weekend traffic enforcement initiative results

In order to increase the safety for all users of highways in the Foothills area, the High River Integrated Traffic Unit (ITU) conducted widespread traffic enforcement on Saturday February 16, 2013. This enforcement coincided with the increase in traffic on the Family Day long weekend.

Enforcement was conducted primarily on Hwys #2, 22, and 22X targeting high risk driving behaviors which contribute to fatal and serious injury collisions. This initiative was conducted by three High River RCMP Members and three Alberta Sheriffs from the High River ITU.

Enforcement Results:

116 speed (1 at 166 kph, 2 in the 150 kph range in posted 110 zone)
1 Impaired Operation
2 seatbelts
1 cell phone
1 no insurance
2 no registration
1 24 hour suspension (drugs)
2 drug seizures
13 Other Provincial Statutes
Total Enforcement - 139 charges

The High River ITU wishes to remind motorists to slow down, wear your seatbelt, stay off your cell phone while driving, and please don't drink and drive. Do your part and help make our roads the safest they can be.
