The Midget Huskies played a no-contest game against Kainai at the Memorial Community Centre arena in Pincher Creek on Friday evening, December 2.

First period
The game was a slow starter, but with 8:20 left on the clock in the first period Huskies' Michael Roy sunk one, with an assist by Brett Tarcon.  That seemed to 'break the ice' for the Huskies.  At 5:55 Steven Mitchell worked one in, ably assisted by Calahan Bruder and Mackenzie Jordan.  Then, with 5:06 left on the clock in the first, Ryan Marshall made a beautiful breakaway play count, bringing the score up to 3-0 for the Huskies.

Second period
Evidently his success near the end of the first period inspired Ryan Marshall, because he did again early in the second, again unassisted.  Then Tristan Doell had his turn just under a minute and a half later, assisted by Blair Goodreau.  Then, with 10:46 left on the clock for the period, Calahan Bruder added a goal to his earlier assist, bringing the score to 6-0, Huskies. Charles Mitchell got the assist on that one. The second period was marred by some unnecessary rough stuff.  Six penalties apiece for the Huskies and Kainai left the ice looking a little bare at times.

Third period
In the latter half of the second period, and into the beginning of the third, Kainai did their best to mount a comeback, to no avail.  Their frustration became more and more evident.  It was, in fact, a somewhat boring period to watch (and probably to play), with the outcome being more inevitable with each passing minute. Huskies' Mackenzie Jordan scored the only goal of the period, with 11:49 on the clock and Tristan Doell and Blair Goodreau assisting. After that, the Huskies played it safe, and seemed to be practicing on their teamwork, which was in fact the highlight of the game throughout.  The penalty box filled up in the declining minutes of the game, with each team sending 4 seat-warmers to the box, to no effect on the outcome.

Chalk one up in the "whine" column for Kainai, who couldn't get through the time-honoured ritual of the post-game handshake without administering a few cheap shots, including one out-of-the-blue blow.  Sorry guys, that's a fundamental no-no.  Good on the Huskies for staying classy.

The Midget Huskies' coaching squad has every reason to be proud of these guys, they're a strong contender to go all the way this year.
